Citrus bergamia, or bergamot orange, is an orange-sized citrus fruit that is yellow or green depending on its maturity, similar to limes.
Genetic research on the ancestral origin of existing citrus varieties found that bergamot may be a hybrid of lemon and bitter orange. The extract has been used to add fragrance to food, perfume and cosmetics.
