Carmine Cochinealis a pigment extracted from female cochineal insects that parasitize cactus-like plants and is obtained by grinding the dried body of female cochineal insects finely and extracting it with water. The main component is cochineal acid (also known as carmine acid, which is an anthraquinone derivative).
